Pre-Professional Program
The Pre-Professional Ballet 6 and Studio Company Programs have been created for students who are truly serious about their ballet training and may be considering pursuing a career as a ballet dancer. The students in these programs take classes on a daily basis.
The curriculum includes Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Contemporary, and Pas de Deux.
Studio Company Program
The City Ballet of San Diego has a two year Studio Company Program for students selected from the Summer Intensive dancing at a pre-professional level. This program serves as a stepping stone from advanced student to professional dancer. A strong emphasis is placed on technical strength and artistry. As a part of their daily student program, Studio Company Members also take three company classes per week, and are often invited to dance with the City Ballet of San Diego in the corps de ballet.
$1400/quarter
Some scholarships are available
Performances
Students of all ages enrolled in City Ballet classes have the opportunity to perform in City Ballet’s annual School Performance – part of City Ballet’s Family Ballet Presentations, each May. Additionally, all students age 6 and up have the opportunity to perform on stage with City Ballet’s professional company in our annual production of The Nutcracker. Please see the School Performances page for more information.
Class Placement
The number of years of ballet and pointe experience suggested for each level are approximate. Each student is unique, and final level placement is determined by the teacher. Students are placed in an appropriate level at the teacher’s discretion.
City Ballet also offers a one-time class placement at no charge to any new student to City Ballet School, in which the instructor will evaluate the student and recommend an appropriate level and schedule. Please email the school at school@cityballet.org to ask about scheduling a placement class.
Dress Code
A Dress Code is required for all levels in the Children and Pre-Professional Programs. All levels must wear the proper required color attire including leotards, tights, and ballet shoes. Please review the required dress code for each level.
