Sophie Robertson began dancing in her hometown of Gig Harbor, Washington, training in all styles until the age of 13. In 2011, she joined the ballet-centric company, Peninsula Dance Theatre, to continue training under Nicole Brun-Cisler and Jason Cisler, both formerly with Cincinnati Ballet. While there, Sophie danced the roles of Snow Queen and Sugar Plum in The Nutcracker, Cinderella in Cinderella, Carlotta Grisi in Pas de Quatre, and Prayer in Coppélia, among others. Sophie augmented her training with summers spent at Houston Ballet, Boston Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. In 2015, Sophie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she attended Butler University to train and study with the Jordan College of the Arts and Fairbanks College of Communications as a dance arts administration and journalism double major. With Butler Ballet, Sophie trained with Marek Cholewa, Rosanna Ruffo, Susan McGuire, Derek Reid, Michelle Jarvis, Cynthia Pratt, and Ramon Flowers. During her four years at Butler University with the direction of this faculty, Sophie danced annually in three full-length productions, performing what became all-time favorite roles of Snow Queen in The Nutcracker and Finger Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty.

Upon graduating with Honors from Butler in 2019, Sophie joined City Ballet of San Diego as an Apprentice where she has performed a variety of works — on stage and on film — including George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht Ballet, Elizabeth Wistrich’s The Nutcracker, A Masquerade Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Espania, Tarantella, Paquita, Raymonda, as well as Geoff Gonzalez’s On the Move, Carmina Burana, Four Seasons, and Rhapsody in Blue.

This season marks Sophie’s first season as a full company member. She also acts as the company’s Marketing Associate and Social Media Content Manager and company photographer.
