City Ballet offers a variety of programs, from at-school programs (City Ballet comes to your school) to in-theater performances.
Special Performances for School Children
City Ballet offers a complete ballet education package for school age children, including in-theatre performances and teacher instruction packages.
The Nutcracker

Follow Clara on her magical journey from a Christmas party to the enchanted Snow Forest and on to the Land of Sweets where the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier welcome magical performances from dancers throughout the world to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score.

Tickets only available in advance through City Ballet, not through the theater’s box office. Minimum order of 10 tickets. All reservations must be paid in advance. Limited to 800 seats.

Discover a Dancer
30-week residency program

This 30-week residency program provides young students an in-depth exposure to ballet. Program culminates with a school assembly for peers and family members.
Available during school hours or as an after-school program.
Available January through May 2026
Appropriate for Grades 2-5
Cost
$4000 for up to 20 students

Classroom Demonstration
30-minute in-classroom introduction to ballet

Two City Ballet dance artists come to your classroom with a 30-minute program.
Students learn ballet steps and the French terminology, plus a close and personal look into the ballet world.
Available through May 2026
Appropriate for Grades K-12
Cost
$100 for one classroom
$150 for two classrooms (same day)
$200 for three classrooms (same day)

A Book and a Ballerina
A wonderful introduction to the enchanting world of classical ballet for kids

Join City Ballet of San Diego for “A Book and a Ballerina!” Enjoy listening to a read-aloud, hearing from a professional ballerina, and learning some basic dance steps. This thirty-minute program is a wonderful introduction to the enchanting world of classical ballet for kids.
