Diversity In Dance Scholarship Program
City Ballet of San Diego’s Diversity in Dance Scholarship Program was founded in Summer 2020 to broaden opportunities for minority dance students and pre-professionals. This scholarship acts to further City Ballet’s mission in making dance more accessible to everyone within our community.
Minority Student Scholarship Award
Each school year City Ballet will award two minority students with free tuition towards their ballet training. This scholarship will continue to support each student for as long as they choose to study ballet at the City Ballet School.
Student Eligibility Requirements
- African, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American descent, among others.
- Not currently enrolled in the City Ballet School
- Students age 6-9 years old (no previous dance training required)
- Students age 10-18 years old (at least one year of prior ballet training required)
- Agree to commitment outlines in City Ballet’s Statement of Understanding
Student Application Process
Children aspiring to take ballet classes, students with previous dance training, and individuals currently enrolled in City Ballet’s Discover a Dancer program can submit by video. Videos can be informal and are to demonstrate the applicant’s passion for dance and desire to further their ballet training. Please include a brief written, or video, statement to let us know what this scholarship would mean to you or your child. Email submissions can be sent to our scholarship directors.
Scholarships will be awarded to students based on merit, financial need, and dedication to advance their dance education.
Minority Pre-Professional Scholarship Award
City Ballet will offer two minority pre-professional students full-tuition scholarships to attend our world-renowned Summer Intensive Program. Through this program, students will be offered the opportunity to study with some of the world’s greatest dance artists. This scholarship will also allow students the ability to audition for City Ballet of San Diego’s trainee and apprenticeship programs.
Pre-Professional Eligibility Requirements
- African, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American descent, among others.
- Not currently enrolled in the City Ballet School
- Pre-professionals 14 and up (prior ballet training required)
- Agree to commitment outlines in City Ballet’s Statement of Understanding
Pre-Professional Application Process
Pre-professional ballet students with extensive previous dance training can submit by video. Videos can be informal and are to demonstrate the applicant’s level of technique and artistic ability. Please include your résumé, a full-body dance photo, headshot, and a brief written, or video, statement to let us know what this scholarship would mean to you.
