Anna Barnes began her training in her hometown of Los Angeles, California where she trained with many former New York City Ballet dancers and master teachers such as Jenifer Ringer, James Fayette, Zippora Karz, and Benjamin Millepied. She spent her summers at various summer intensives such as Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and Joffrey Ballet on full scholarship to augment her training. After graduating from the Colburn Dance Academy in Los Angeles, she attended Indiana University’s Jacob School of Music Ballet program under the direction of Violette Verdy, Kyra Nichols, Carla Korbes, Sarah Wroth, and Michael Vernon. While at IU, Anna performed a variety of roles by renowned choreographers such as Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, Christopher Wheeldon, and Twyla Tharp. Upon graduation in 2019 from Indiana University with a B.S. in Ballet from the Jacob’s School of Music and Marketing in the Kelley School of Business, she joined City Ballet of San Diego. After one season as an apprentice with the company where she performed in George Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht Ballet, Elizabeth Wistrich’s The Nutcracker and Geoff Gonzalez’s Carmina Burana, Anna was promoted to full company artist for the 2020-2021 season.
