FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: November 13, 2007 Contact: Stephanie Thompson E-Mail: stephanie.thompson@cityballet.org Phone: 619.840.7353 City Ballet's Award-Winning Nutcracker SAN DIEGO - City Ballet of San Diego's award-winning production of the classic holiday ballet "The Nutcracker" returns this year for two weekends of performances, Dec. 7-9 and Dec. 14-16, 2007. Voted "San Diego's Best Nutcracker" (Tommy Dance Award), and described by the San Diego Union-Tribune as "a plum of a Nutcracker," City Ballet's 13th annual Nutcracker returns to the beautifully refurbished Spreckels Theatre in downtown San Diego for eight performances, with live musical accompaniment. Directors Steven and Elizabeth Wistrich, formerly of the Boston Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet, have created a lavish production with their company of professional dancers. Fashioned after the choreography of the great Russian master, Lev Ivanov, who created the very first Nutcracker more than 100 years ago, the production is dazzling, with virtuoso dancing complemented by opulent sets and costumes. Children's roles are performed by talented young dancers from the City Ballet School, the official school of City Ballet. The City Ballet Orchestra, under the baton of John Nettles, performs Tchaikovsky's brilliant score. Performances are Friday, December 7 at 7:30pm; Saturday, December 8 at 2pm and 7:30pm; Sunday, December 9 at 2pm; Friday, December 14 at 7:30pm; Saturday, December 15 at 2pm and 7:30pm; and Sunday, December 16 at 2pm. Director Steven Wistrich advises everyone to come early to hear a holiday chorus sing carols in the theater lobby.
