At-School Performances

City Ballet offers three programs designed for children in kindergarten through grade 12.  Programs meet the California State Standards for Dance.

Program #1:
Nutcracker in a Nutshell

The full Nutcracker story is condensed to provide an introduction to the full-length Nutcracker ballet, performed by City Ballet's professional dancers in full costume.

Nutcracker in a Nutshell is presented at the school's theater, auditorium or assembly space.  Study guides are available.

Available Dates: November 5-16, 2007

Program Length: 40 minutes

Cost: $400 for one assembly or $750 for two back-to-back assemblies

Program #2
How Do You Like Your Ballet?

Students experience show-stopping excerpts from the ballet repertoire, classical and contemporary, performed by City Ballet's professional dancers in full costume.  Following the performance, students may talk with the dancers for a look inside the ballet world.

Available Dates: January 7, 2008 through April 25, 2008 (not available March 17-21, 2008)

Program Length: 40 minutes

Cost: $400 for one assembly or $750 for two back-to-back assemblies

Program #3
Classroom Demonstration

Two City Ballet dancers come to the classroom with a Discover a Dancer program.  Students learn ballet steps and the French terminology.  The dancers provide a special, close-up and personal look into the ballet world.

Available Dates: January 7, 2008 through April 25, 2008 (not available March 17-21, 2008)

Program Length: 30 minutes

Cost: $100 for one classroom; $150 for two classrooms (on the same day); $200 for three classrooms (on the same day)

Facility Requirements

For the Nutcracker in a Nutshell and How Do You Like Your Ballet? programs, the school provides:

• Stage space, preferably at least 32-feet wide by 24-feet deep
• Dressing room space, located nearby the stage space
• Microphone with Public Address system

City Ballet provides:

• Sound system
• Portable dance floor
• Costumes and make-up

No special facilities are required for the Classroom Demonstration program.

In-Theater Performances for School-Aged Children

City Ballet also offers in-theater performances for school children, providing a complete performing-arts experience for children in grades 3 through 12.
